Our Teachers

New Horizons Academy


Theresa Cole


Theresa and her husband Ron have 5 beautiful children and have home-schooled for 25 years. They have successfully graduated four students and have only one more to go.  She has been involved in the home-school community and taught in various co-ops for many years. She holds degrees in Bible/Ministry and Education and is very involved in global missions. 


Humaira Dale


Humaira has BA in Spanish  Education from Asbury University and Masters of Spanish from the University of Kentucky. Before, staying home with her children, she taught at Lexington Christian Academy, UK, and Asbury University. She has been homeschooling for 13 years. John, her husband, and she have 7 children.  She has been teaching Spanish to homeschoolers from her home for 20 years. She is excited to be part of the CHB teaching team. In her spare time she enjoys running, cross training, reading, watching classic movies and working for Jamberry Nails and Health through Nutrition.


Cindy Fawcett


Cindy has a BA in Political Science, but discovered her love for teaching during the early years of homeschooling her sons. In the last 13 years, she has taught writing, literature and personal finance with several homeschool co-ops. Cindy has a passion for teaching writing and literature in a manner that alleviates student fear and anxiety. She is looking forward to working with the students and families of NHA.


Gladie Green


Gladie Green’s varied educational background includes a BS in Agricultural Economics from New Mexico State University, an M.Div. from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law. Gladie and her husband of 30 years, J.D. are grateful to God for the blessing of their 5 children and 3 year old granddaughter. In addition to homeschooling their children, Gladie has assisted families primarily through the practice of adoption law. The Greens are beginning their 20th year of homeschooling and their 10th year of NHA.


Michelle Lavin


Michelle Lavin graduated from Becker College in Leicester Massachusetts and holds a AS in Travel and Tourism. She was both a corporate and leisure destination specialist and an instructor for a New England Travel Agent school. Michelle and her husband Casey have been married for 26 years. She loves being a mother to her three children and has been homeschooling for the past 10 years.  She has traveled extensively, both international and domestic. She moved here from Maine 9 years ago and enjoys traveling with her family throughout Kentucky, attending pulling competitions with their team of draft horses. She is excited to be teaching both LZ and NHA courses this year.


Elizabeth Lin


Elizabeth has a BS in Biology and Chemistry from Cumberland College and a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Kentucky.  She has been homeschooling her four boys for the past 16 years, and she also tutors several elementary and college students.  She is currently an instructor in the Biology Department at Morehead State University and has previously taught at Eastern Kentucky University and the College of Pharmacy at the University of Kentucky.  She also serves on the board of the CHB homeschool group.  She is an active member of Tates Creek Christian Church where she plays in the orchestra and handbell choir. 


Dawn Webb


Dawn teaches Middle School history and science as well as Biology at NHA. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy. She is married to Chuck and has two daughters. Her oldest is a graduate of NHA and Morehead State University while her youngest daughter remains at home. She has taught classes with LZ and NHA for many years. Her hobbies include reading, hiking, gardening, and history.


Learning Zone


Nikole Christensen


Nikole Christensen is a wife and mother of 3.  Her passions include journalism, knitting, and she is a die-hard Pintrest fan!


Cindy Crissman


Cindy has been a part of Learning Zone for the past two years.  She is excited to be teaching this year.  She is a Homeschool Mom first, but also works part time at UK as a Mother/Baby nurse and Lactation Counselor.  She and her husband have two children, who love coming to Learning Zone.  She and her children have made such wonderful friendships at CHB.


Michelle Lavin


Michelle has been the administrator for LZ for the past 5 years. She loves teaching, traveling, cooking and doing anything creative! She is an active member of the Bluegrass Horse Pulling Association and lives on a small farm with her family, two draft horses, a pony, a duck, chickens, cats and dogs.


Christy Newman


Christy has participated in Learning Zone for a couple of years and is excited to teach at Learning Zone this year.  She and her husband have 2 children that both participate in the CHB programs.


Tiffany Parsons


Tiffany and her husband, Christian, live in Versailles and have two daughters attending CHB. When she’s not homeschooling, Tiffany also works as a part-time Instructor for the STAR Program through The Kentucky Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.  She graduated from Georgetown College with a degree in Spanish.  Tiffany and her family call Quest Community Church their home.  They enjoy movies, cooking, traveling, and most of all, laughing together.  Tiffany is excited to be bringing her Spanish skills to the co-op she and her family have come to know and love! 


Sarah Russell


Sarah participated and led Learning Zone classes last year and is returning this year to teach the preschool class. She and her husband have 4 children that will be participating in the program. Sarah will also be helping this year to offer fellowship opportunities for the CHB members.


Melanie Smith


Melanie is a wife and a mama of 3.  She and her children started attending LZ when they moved to Lexington from Northern Virginia.  Melanie loves to cook, workout, dance and spend time with family and friends.  She is very excited about teaching this year and having fun with the kids!
